Heroic Priesthood: Fr Barron on its Mission, Optimism and Purpose
Holiness is heroism.
Christ’s invitation to priesthood is an invitation to a way of life that is athletic in its intensity and heroic in its form. It’s just over 10 minutes long, and helps refocus the discussion on clergy, reminding us that it’s a new era with new vocations, inspired to bring Christ into the world by living Him in all activities.
Like basketball, and sports in general, priesthood is teamwork, hard, grueling and utterly inspiring. “A good player listens to his coach and other players… the same in the Church.”
“The priest’s humanity should be a bridge to Christ” St. John Paul II
See how these young men have discerned the call in spite of the negative live promulgated by the media. And yet, they are drawn to the vision of a sacrificial life. Join them as they explore the connections between sports and priesthood, how better basketball makes for a better pastor.
In this award-winning short film, produced by Word on Fire Catholic Ministries in partnership with Spirit Juice Studios, Father Robert Barron and the seminarians of Mundelein Seminary present the demands and the joy of the priestly vocation.
In December 2015, “Heroic Priesthood” won the First Place Award of Excellence at the Best Shorts Competition, in the Christian category.
